Zoorific Opportunities for Cub Scouts at the Erie Zoo

For All Cub Scouts
Wildlife Conservation – Work toward earning your Wildlife Conservation Pin in this two-hour program. We will make a food chain poster, plaster footprint cast, animal class collage, meet some animals and discover how zoos are working to save them. Program fee: $6.00 per child ($60.00 minimum fee). No charge for adults for the program.
Animal Art Work toward earning your Art Pin in this two hour program. With live animals as models and all materials provided cubs will complete two sculptures, a collage and wildlife postage stamp. Program fee: $8.00 per child ($80.00 minimum fee). No charge for adults for the program.
Staying beyond your program time? Group Admission: $3.00 per person (adult or child).

Especially for Tiger Cubs
Animal Coverings: Tiger Cubs and their adult partners will meet a mammal, bird, reptile and an invertebrate discovering what makes each animal special. Touchable animals and biofacts plus make a tiger magnet for your Cub Scout memos. This 1 hour long program fulfills Elective 31 and 42.
Program Fee: $5.00 per child $50.00 minimum fee. (siblings who attend must pay; adults are not charged for the program.) Make a day of it for only $3.00 per person more (group admission rate for adults or children.) Zoo Members are admitted to the zoo free.

Wolf Cub Programs
These 2 hour long programs will engage your boys and provide them with resources to complete some of their nature-related electives.
Program Fee: $6.00 per child ($60.00 minimum payment required.)
Adults are not charged for the programs.
Staying beyond your program time? Group Admission: $3.00 per person (adult or child).

Wild Wings: Meet some of the Erie Zoo’s resident birds as we learn to identify them by their coloration behavior and calls. Create a gift for the birds and start your own bird life list. Covers a, b, c, d & e of the Birds Elective #13 and provides the leader with resources to assist in the completion of the elective.

Plantastic Plants: tour the zoo’s greenhouse and selected gardens as we complete a scavenger hunt for unique plant features. Learn what plants need to grow, decorate a pot and plant your own green friend to raise at home. Directions for creating a garden for wildlife are provided to help you complete your Grow Something Elective #15.
Bear Cub Programs
These 2 hour long programs are designed to actively engage your boys as they explore the ways we share our world with wildlife today or how Native Americans lived with their natural world.
Program Fee: $6.00 per child ($60.00 minimum payment required.)
Adults are not charged for the programs.
Staying beyond your program time? Group Admission: $3.00 per child or adult.

Sharing Your World with Wildlife: Discover the ways zoos are working to protect and preserve the animals and plants that share our world. You will complete all five parts of Achievement #5 during this program. Boys go home with a unique poster showing the behaviors and adaptations of an animal or bird.

Native American Animal Tales: Discover the respect and kinship Native Americans of several cultures felt toward the Earth’s creatures through stories, songs, games and crafts. Fulfills Elective # 24.

Programs Especially for Webelos
These 2 hour long programs help your boys to complete activity badges and fuel their excitement about the natural world.

Exploring Nature
Webelos will love creating their own nature notebook and insect keeper and learn some tricks for respectfully observing wildlife at the zoo or in their own backyards. Start a bird life list, make a food chain and more. All materials are provided. Continue your observations at home to finish the Naturalist Activity Badge.
Cost: $7.00 per child ($70 minimum program fee.)
No charge for adults who attend the program.

Zoo Art Workshop
What could be more fun than completing part of your Artist Activity Badge at the zoo with live animal models? Your boys will learn to create detailed line drawings of animals, mix colors for a painting, craft a creature of found objects and a clay sculpture. All materials are provided.
Cost: $8.00 per child ($80.00 minimum program fee)
No charge for adults who attend the program.

Opportunities for Teens at the Erie Zoo
Are you looking for something wild to do for a service project or are you interested in a wildlife-related career?
Then you belong in the Zoo!
Talk with your troop and leaders to determine where your interests lie. Then Call the Erie Zoo Volunteer Coordinator (814) 864-4091 for information on our many opportunities for individual teens or for Scout troops.

Special Event Volunteer Opportunities
ZooBoo (We have costumed and non-costumed roles to fill)
Training is held in Sept., and early Oct. You must be 14.

Children’s Zoo and Spring/Summer Event Volunteers
Assist with activities at events or help in Children’s Zoo contact yards.
Trainings held at various times throughout the year. You must be 14.

EdZooCrew Teen Volunteers
Help with camps in the summer or staff a discovery or activity table.
Training is held in spring. You must be 14.
